A Fédération Equestre Internationale tribunal made its decision on Tuesday, June 15, regarding the doping case of Cornet Obolensky, German Marco Kutscher’s 2008 Olympic mount.
Kutscher admitted to the tribunal that the horse had been treated with Lactanase, an FEI Medication A Prohibited Substance, at the 2008 Olymic Games. Kutscher said he believed the team veterinarian had followed the necessary protocols to ensure the treatment was permitted and within the rules.
The panel found that Kutscher was the person responsible for the horse and stated that he violated the FEI Anti-Doping and Medication Control Rules due to the undocumented treatment. As a result, Kutscher and the horse have been disqualified from all placings at the 2008 Olympic Games.
Kutscher was not suspended as the Tribunal felt the timing would be unfair, but the tribunal ordered him to pay a fine of approximately $8,700. He must also pay approximately $4,300 towards the cost of the proceedings.
Kutscher has 30 days to file an appeal.
