With the approval of the leaders of the municipal government of Shanghai, Shanghai Sports Bureau and the Longines Global Champions Tour have agreed that the first LGCT event to be held in China will take place in Shanghai, June 6-8, 2014. The event was originally scheduled for April of this year.
In a July 22 meeting with Longines Global Champions Tour founder and president Jan Tops and LGCT advisor John L. Thornton, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong said Shanghai is looking forward to hosting the equestrian series in accordance with its agreement with LGCT and to working together to promote the healthy growth of equestrian sports in Shanghai.
Tops said the new date would allow for thorough planning and preparations to ensure that the inaugural event in China is truly world-class and an unqualified success. Mayor Yang stated he was thankful for the extensive preparations that have taken place to date, including close co-operation between Chinese and European Union authorities on the issue of quarantine.
