Liga de Bogota Brings Home the Gold at the Colombian National Games

Dr. Cesar Parra struck gold in Colombia during a very exciting and successful trip where he coached the dressage team from Liga de Bogota (the Bogota Region) to win the Team Gold in the Colombian National Games.  Parra, who is based in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey and Jupiter, Florida, was one of Colombia’s top international riders before becoming a US citizen in 2008. The Colombian National Games included all of the disciplines of international equestrian sport, and the dressage competition was held at the Country Club Guaymaral in Bogota.

“I was honored to coach Liga de Bogota and am thrilled with their success,” said Parra. “We won the Team Gold, as well as Individual Gold with Mauricio Sanchez, and also Individual Silver with Diana Rey.  The competition was very good for the sport for many reasons, but mainly because it drew so much public attention.  The different regions brought trainers from overseas that helped improved the quality of the riding, including Patrick Burssens, Yvonne Losos de Muñiz, Rafael Ortiz and others.

In addition to winning the Individual Gold, Mauricio Sanchez also won Gold for Best Overall during the Games; this victory comes just after Sanchez won top honors at the Colombian National Dressage Championships. Sanchez attributes his success to Parra’s ability to find the perfect equine partner.  He explains that Parra’s combined knowledge and contacts is what led to his horse, First Fisherman.  This along with Parra’s continued training and guidance has resulted in the “Fisherman-Mauricio” winning partnership.  In addition, Parra coached Diana Rey to win the bronze medal for Overall during the Games.  “It was a very successful weekend for Liga de Bogota!” Parra said. “We won three Gold, one Silver and one Bronze. Now we will keep working together for next year, as well as start looking in to taking the team to the next Central American Games and PanAmerican games as well.”

Now back in the USA, Dr. Cesar Parra and his team at Piaffe-Performance Farm are packing up for their move from their New Jersey farm and are looking forward to the 2013 Florida show season.
