Four-time Olympian Ian Stark is out of intensive care but still under close surveillance after suffering a brain bleed on Sunday, August 10.
A severe headache struck the 55-year-old Scottish event rider while on his way to teach a lesson. Further tests are being carried out to determine the as yet unknown cause of the bleed.
"He pulled over near Haverfordwest [Wales], called an ambulance and was taken to Withybush hospital for a brain scan,” stated daughter Steph Robinson. “They found a small bleed in his brain and moved him that night to Cardiff."
According to Horse & Hound, Stark is now “stable and comfortable” and is expected to recover without surgical intervention.
The three-time Badminton CCI**** (England) champion has helped the British eventing team to win silver medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games; the 1988 Seoul Games, where he also won individual silver; and the 2000 Sydney Games. Although recently retired from riding, Stark has added the titles of internationally renowned trainer and course designer to his résumé.
