Lexington, Kentucky – February 06, 2015 – Horses and Hope, a breast cancer initiative of the Office of Kentucky’s First Lady and the Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP), has been named the Official Charity of the 2015 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event Presented by Land Rover.  Equestrian Events, Inc. (EEI), producer of the prestigious international event, has a long history of making financial contributions to charities that support local equine interests and serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The mission of Horses and Hope is to work alongside the state’s equine industry to provide breast cancer awareness, education, screenings, and treatment referrals. Since the program was founded in 2008, Horses and Hope  has reached nearly 1 million race track and horse show attendees, and educated  nearly 16,000 equine employees. The program has screened nearly 700 workers and detected breast cancer in three individuals who have received treatment.

“EEI has always given back to the community through regular charitable donations. In addition to those donations, we decided last year to name an annual official charity so we could make an even more meaningful impact and bring much needed awareness to these organizations,” explained Stewart Perry, president of the EEI board of directors. “Horses and Hope is a perfect choice for the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event considering the Governor and First Lady Beshear’s deep involvement with the Kentucky Horse Park and the important work Horses and Hope is doing.”

“We are so grateful to be named the Official Charity of the 2015 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event,” said Jane Beshear, First Lady of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, who has continued the legacy of Kentucky First Ladies to support breast cancer initiatives for the Commonwealth. “Horses and Hope is focused on increasing breast cancer awareness and educating Kentuckians and at-risk populations about the importance of prevention, screening and early detection. Our partnership with ‘Rolex Kentucky’ will help us bring this important message to the thousands of equestrian enthusiasts who will be attending this world-class, three-day event.”

The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event returns to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., April 23-26.  Horses and Hope will be the featured charity at a fundraising event to be held on Thursday night, April 23, at the Kentucky Governor’s Mansion, where a small number of Maker’s Mark Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event commemorative bottles will be auctioned off, with all proceeds from the auction going to Horses and Hope. Tickets to the fundraising event are $200 per individual or $300 per couple. A voucher worth $100 will be included with each individual or couple ticket purchased. That voucher can be used during the bottle auction.

Equestrian Events, Inc. (EEI) is a non-profit charitable Kentucky corporation that was established initially to produce the 1978 World Three-Day Event Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park. Following the success of those championships, EEI established an annual event that quickly evolved into what is today the only Four-Star three-day event in the western hemisphere, the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event Presented by Land Rover.
