Sam Griffiths and Happy Times will represent Australia in eventing at the Olympic Games in London. Griffiths was called in to replace Megan Jones and Allofasudden this morning.
Jones was a late addition to the team, added after Shane Jones withdrew Taurus for veterinary reasons on July 22. Allofasudden sustained a soft tissue injury to his left foreleg, according to The Australian.
“There is no doubt that losing two horses just prior to the start of our Olympic campaign is less than ideal,” Australian equestrian manager Brett Mace told The Australian. “The reality is this is the nature of our sport. Horses can sustain these injuries, and before you know it, a sporting dream can come to an end.”
Happy Times, a 13-year-old owned by Griffiths, Dinah Posford and Juliet Donald, was fourth at the Badminton CCI**** (England) and 16th at the Burghley CCI**** (England) in 2011. This will be the first Olympic Games for Griffiths, 40, who’s based in Great Britain full time.
