Just three weeks ago it looked like the only four-star in the Southern Hemisphere would have to cancel due to insufficient funds.
However, after more than $55,000 poured in from equestrian enthusiasts from Australia and around the world, the board has decided the Australian International 3 Day Event will go on, Nov. 13-15 in the parklands outside of Adelaide.
Bob Gillen, chairman of the not-for-profit board of the Adelaide Horse Trials Management Inc., which runs the AI3DE, said the event was still looking for a “naming rights” sponsor and would continue to work hard to attract new corporate supporters as well.
“We’re thrilled to see the South Australian community vote with their wallets—even in these tough times—to support keeping a great South Australian event here in our state. We can’t say thank you enough,” said Gillen in a press release. “We’re extremely grateful to all of those who’ve already made such a passionate plea for the survival of the event, and obviously we would be delighted to accept any further donations or pledges of support.”
