Frances Land And Lillie Keenan Land SSG Riding Gloves Bonus Money

Jan 21, 2013 - 7:18 AM

With two horses in the jump-off, Lillie Keenan doubled her chances of taking home the $1,000 bonus offered by SSG Riding Gloves for winning the $10,000 Griffis Group High Junior Jumper Classic on Sunday, January 20, at 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.

Keenan, 16, of New York, NY, qualified both Londinium and Pumped Up Kicks for the five-horse jump-off.  It was her first ride, Londinium, that posted the winning time of 41.29 seconds to take the win as well as a $1,000 bonus for wearing SSG ‘Digital’ style gloves.

“I really love it!” smiled Keenan in reference to the SSG Riding Gloves ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion.  “I think it is extra special.  I wear the gloves in all of my classes, so to be paid to wear them is pretty nice.”

As to how she would spend her $1,000 bonus, Keenan said, “I have a feeling I will spend the money on my horses, getting them everything they need.  I love to pamper my horses.”

Both Londinium and Pumped Up Kicks are new mounts for Keenan, having been purchased one month ago in Germany.  Keenan trains with Andre Dignelli and Heritage Farm in Katonah, NY.

On Saturday, there was no doubt that the $2,000 bonus would be awarded to the winner of the $15,000 SJHOF High Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic.  All nine entries that successfully advanced to the jump-off over Luc Musette’s first round course were wearing SSG ‘Digital’ gloves to be eligible for the bonus money.  It was the final rider on course, Frances Land, who posted the winning time to take the win, beating out both her older sister and her father in the jump-off.

“I love it, it’s fantastic!” said Land of the SSG ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion.  “It makes me want to wear the gloves, so it’s definitely a good marketing incentive.”

Land, 18, of Alpharetta, GA, is coached by her father, Jay Land, who was a winner in the SSG promotion during its inaugural year at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival.  Although Land and her family were only showing during weeks one and two of this year’s Winter Equestrian Festival, she made it count by posting a victory with her new horse, Vieanne.

“This is only our third horse show, so it’s taken me a few classes to get to know her” said Land, noting that her father purchased the 11-year-old mare in December.  “Every time I’ve shown her, she keeps getting smoother and smoother, and this was our first jump-off.  She is hot-blooded, insanely careful and very fast.  I love her!”

While Keenan and Land were both bonus money winners during week two, the $3,000 bonus offered in Thursday’s $33,000 WEF Challenge Cup was not awarded.  That means the bonus money doubles to $6,000 for the WEF Challenge Cup Round III during week three.

SSG Riding Gloves offers a $3,000 bonus in each of the weekly WEF Challenge Cup Series events, as well as a $1,000 bonus in the Amateur-Owner Jumper High Classic and the Junior Jumper High Classic competitions.  If the winning rider in any of these three competitions is wearing SSG ‘Digital’ style gloves with the SSG horse head logo clearly visible, they will be presented with a cash bonus during the awards presentation.  If not awarded, the bonus money carries forward to the next event in the series.  A total of $60,000 in bonus money is on offer from SSG Riding Gloves at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival.

SSG ‘Digital’ Riding Gloves are available for purchase at numerous Wellington locations, including Tackeria, as well as on-site at the FTI Winter Equestrian Festival show grounds at various retailers including Running Fox and Beval Saddlery.
