Devon, Pa.—May 27

Following Thursday evening’s conclusion at the Devon Horse Show, Coco Fath was feeling a bit frustrated. Heavy rains throughout the day meant her equitation rounds didn’t go quite as planned and during the speed round of the junior jumpers she had 12 faults on Bart-C to finish near the bottom of the leaderboard, and a slow 4-fault round on Huckleberry left her sitting 15th.

“I was just thinking back to my past rounds and didn’t think I was doing that well, so I had to get my confidence back up,” said Fath.

A win in yesterday’s class on Huckleberry though brought her spirits up, and she came into tonight’s $20,00 Show Jumping Hall Of Fame Junior Jumper Classic feeling ready to fight for the win.

While Madison Goetzmann was the fastest over the short course with Prestigious, Fath placed second, giving her enough points to take home the junior jumper championship. She was also named the leading junior jumper rider.

“I was thinking he might be a little tired, but he was on his game, and he was so ready to go. I couldn’t have asked for a better horse,” she said. “Every single jump he was there for me, helping me every stride. He was perfect. He’s the best horse.”

Fath purchased “Huck” a year ago when she was looking for a partner who would give her confidence over the bigger fences, and he proved to be just the right horse.

“We clicked in the beginning,” said Fath. “He’s been amazing. He’s definitely my favorite. He’s such a character, and he tries his heart out every single time in the ring.”

With tonight’s win Goetzmann earned enough points to take home the reserve championship, and she accomplished a goal she’s been looking forward to—winning a Devon blue.

“It’s obviously a really prestigious event; I’m just honored to be competing here,” Goetzmann said. “To have the win is definitely a nice feeling.”
