The ninth annual Junior North American Field Hunter Championship will take place Nov. 6 at the Warrenton Hunt kennels (Va.).
Junior foxhunters earn a spot at the championship by attending qualifier meets, where judges will evaluate the riders’ skill in the hunt field and suitability between riders and ponies or horses. At the end of each meet, judges will select riders to advance to the championship.
Three divisions will be offered: hilltoppers; first flight, 12 and under; and first flight, 13 and over.
The qualifying meets are as follows:
•Blue Ridge Hunt (Va.)—Sept. 17
•Middleburg Hunt (Va.)—Oct. 1
•New Market-Middletown Valley Hounds (Md.)—Oct. 9
•Old Dominion Hounds (Va.)—Oct. 10
•Mr. Stewart’s Cheshire Foxhounds (Pa.)—Sept. 1
•Andrew’s Bridge Foxhounds (Pa.)—Oct. 8
•Elkridge-Harford Hunt (Md.)—Oct. 1
•Amwell Valley Hounds (N.J.)—Oct. 16
Entry fees are set at $50 for as many days hunting as a rider wishes with any of the hunts. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Piedmont Environmental Council.
