Gordon Cadwgan, father of U.S. Olympic dressage rider Carol Lavell, has donated $1 million to The Dressage Foundation, according to their website.
The mission of The Dressage Foundation is “to cultivate and provide financial support for the advancement of dressage.” Cadwgan instructed TDF to use the funds where they are needed the most.
The Lavell family had already established the $25,000 Carol Lavell Advanced Dressage Prize, which is awarded annually to a qualified rider who intends to compete at the international level. “Now, The Dressage Foundation will be able to award two $25,000 prizes each year, if we have the qualified applicants,” said Lavell.
The Lavell family also manages “The Gifted Fund,” which gives nine scholarships up to $900 each to working adult amateurs. The scholarships are intended to help the recipients improve their riding and horse care. The amount of these scholarships will likely be increased due to Cadwgan’s donation.
