A victory in the Meydan FEI Nations Cup Promotional League Final in Barcelona, Spain, sent Denmark into the elite group of countries competing in the 2011 Meydan FEI Nations Cup Series.
Denmark (12 faults) scored a clear victory over second-placed Spain (16 faults) and third-placed Canada (16 faults) on Sept. 19.
“We are a small country, but this is a young team with some good new horses, and we made qualification for the top-level series our goal from the very start of the year,” said Danish anchor rider Tina Lund, 29.
Lund posted 0 faults in the first round and didn’t have to return to jump the second round. Her teammates Andreas Schou, Emilie Martinson and Thomas Sandgaard had already secured the victory.
Denmark now joins Belgium, France, the United States, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands in the Meydan FEI Nations Cup series.
“We want to be up there with the top nations, and now we have earned our place,” said Lund. “We know it won’t be easy, but we are looking forward to it, and we will be giving it everything we’ve got.”
The bottom four teams from the top-level series (Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Poland) were relegated to the promotional league for 2011.
