Event rider Craig Thompson has stepped down from his position as the president of the Professional Riders’ Organization, a group that serves to promote improvements to the sport of three-day eventing. Phillip Dutton will serve as Thompson’s replacement.
“For three years, starting in 2007, I provided PRO a great deal of its vision and energy,” Thompson said. “It's now time for other people to provide that, and certainly plenty of them are in a good position to do so.” He added that he recommended Dutton for the position.
Thompson, who was a founding board member of the organization, stepped down from PRO in order to focus on his new business endeavor, which involves raising pasture-fed meats and selling locally sourced prepared foods. Thompson’s products are currently being sold at farmer’s markets and restaurants near his home in Wagener, S.C.
Additionally, Thompson and his partner Sarah Heffron recently welcomed their first child, Callan James Vancouver Thompson, born May 13.
