Courtney Dye Is Off The Ventilator

Courtney Dye remains in a coma, but she's now breathing almost completely on her own.

"Courtney is now off the ventilator except for two short periods during the day when she is connected to it again to be sure her lungs expand completely and that she gets a bit of extra oxygen. She opens her eyes slightly, but without recognition at this time," reported Lendon Gray.

Jason Dye, Courtney's husband is also continuing to keep people updated on Courtney’s website. He  thanked everyone for sending so many cards and messages of support.

“Her room is filling up with wonderful cards and photos, and she has a beautiful canvas print hanging at the foot of her bed. It is of her and Mythilus at the 2008 Olympics with the rings and flame in the background. The nurses all admire it and are using it as inspiration to give her the best care possible. They want to be able to watch her at the 2012 Games and point at the television and say that they knew her and cared for her!”

Friends and fans can send emails to ComebackCourt@gmail.com, and Jason will read them to Courtney. Cards and contributions should go to: Courtney Dye, 2442 Muir Circle, Wellington, FL 33414

Thank goodness she is improving, and I wish her a speedy and full recovery.  But I have to say, this is just another case of why a helmet is a critical piece of equipment. Falls happen when you least expect them.  I wish the dressage and Western riders would get over their helmet-phobia, and just wear the darn thing.
