Correction: New Safety Top Hat Not ASTM/SEI-Approved

The Safety Equipment Institute has confirmed that the L’Hiver Safety Top Hat has not received ASTM/SEI certification.

In an interview with Horse & Hound, L’Hiver’s Boy de Winter stated that the top hat had been “approved to meet EN1384 safety standards”, which is England’s helmet safety testing standards. While similar, it is not synonymous with ASTM F1163-04a, the United States’ assessment standard.

In England, INSPEC, an independent organization that tests protective equipment, performs conformity assessments to decide if EN 1384-approved helmets also meet the ASTM F1163 standards. In the United States, SEI is responsible for the assessments and publishes certified helmet models and sizes on its website.
