The Bromont Three-Day Event is adding a CIC*** to the schedule for 2012. The event, which currently hosts a CCI*, CCI** and CCI***, created the additional division to help riders with Olympic qualifications. It will be held June 7-10 in Bromont, Quebec.

“This year is an important year because of the Olympics,” said event director Sue Ockendon. “What horses we have trying for the Canadian team won’t be running the CCI at that time. Also the Americans needed it as well, though I know some of them are already going to be in Europe by that time next year.”

Ockendon estimated that adding the CIC*** will mean building at least 28 new fences. The open training division, which ran alongside the FEI divisions for the last several years, will be pushed back to the next weekend. Bromont will also host pre-training and a training/preliminary division then.

“You don’t want the course to get cluttered; that’s a major concern with adding [the CIC***],” said Ockendon. “For it to look really nice and be very galloping, you have to clean it up a bit. We’ve also had to do a lot of drainage to ensure the footing will be good for the horses on the whole. We put a lot more money in it than we wanted for next year. They’re going to get a pretty nice course.”
