The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will host an All-Star Equine Anti-Cruelty Summit and Panel Discussion on Friday, Jan. 8, at the George H. Morris Horsemastership Training Session at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Fla. This event, which is free and open to the public, will take place from 1-3 p.m.
ASPCA President and CEO Ed Sayres will lead a panel discussion on equine welfare and anti-cruelty issues. Among other topics, the panel will discuss unwanted and abandoned horses, horse adoption, horse slaughter, inhumane training and practices and New York City carriage horses.
The ASPCA will also present the first Mobile Animal Crime Scene Investigation Unit. This unit will be open for tours during the event.
The event will conclude with a presentation of local rescued horses and dogs that are available for adoption. Attendees will have the opportunity to adopt as well as to sign the ASPCA's anti-cruelty pledge and become ambassadors for animal welfare.
Sayres and equitation standout Brianne Goutal will award ASPCA Animal Welfare Ambassador Medals to the 10 junior riders in the Horsemastership Training Session, including Chronicle blogger Theo Boris.
