All WEG Horses Test Negative For Prohibited Substances

The Fédération Equestre Internationale announced on Friday, Oct. 15, that all horses tested at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Kentucky were negative for any prohibited substances.

The WEG took place from Sept. 25-Oct. 10 in Lexington, Ky., and featured 752 horses from 58 countries. FEI Veterinary Regulations require minimum testing of 5 percent of competing horses, and the WEG tested 11 percent of competitors. In all, 82 horses were tested including all individual medal horses and one member of each medal winning team, plus random samples taken throughout the event.

“This is a great success for everyone involved in equestrian sport and is the best possible endorsement of the FEI’s Clean Sport Campaign,” FEI President HRH Princess Haya said. “It also proves the value of the FEI’s educational program, as athletes and their supporters now have the knowledge to make a clear distinction between the use of routine, legitimate medication and deliberate doping to affect a horse’s performance. Everyone has a role to play in maintaining this clean record going forward.”
