After running for five years in Florida, the Palm Beach World Dressage Masters CDI***** has been canceled for 2014.
Michael Stone, president of Equestrian Sport Productions, which operates the Adequan Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, Fla., said that ESP wasn’t ruling out hosting the competition in 2015. But the current roster of shows, featuring six CDIs and culminating in a CDI*****, will keep the schedule full in 2014.
Wellington Classic Dressage managed the 2013 Palm Beach World Dressage Masters, which was held at the Jim Brandon Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., and also hosted other CDIs last season. But the Adequan Global Dressage Festival recently acquired several dates from Wellington Classic Dressage. This year all CDIs in the Wellington area will be held at the Global Dressage Festival facility or at Equestrian Estates in Loxahatchee, Fla.
“We’ll re-evaluate it after we’ve got through this year, because this is our first year where we have a full slate of shows,” said Stone. “We [would] have to have [the World Dressage Masters] very early in the schedule, and we have our own five-star. We’ve always had a five-star at the end. We want the circuit to build to a five-star at the end.”
“Over the summer, we have come to an agreement and are proud to be working together with ESP to integrate our show season in order to make a more cohesive competition schedule,” added Noreen O’Sullivan, managing partner at Wellington Classic Dressage. “We were all asked to revisit the CDI calendar in Florida in order to reduce the total number of CDI competitions for the 2014 season, and the WDM event did not fit in this year’s Global dressage schedule.”
A final competition schedule has been set and approved by the U.S. Equestrian Federation. The dates for this year’s GDF CDIs are:
Jan. 8-12 CDI-W
Jan. 22-26 CDI-W
Feb. 5-9 CDI****
Feb. 19-23 CDIO***
March 12-16 CDI-W
March 26-30 CDI*****
In addition to the GDF, the Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI-W is scheduled for Feb. 27-March 2 and will be held at Equestrian Estates in Loxahatchee, Fla.
